The capital of Baltistan is known as “skardu”. It is 2438 meters above sea level with a maximum temperature of 27 C and minimum temperature of 8 C. Baltistan’s five valleys that are Khaplu, Shigar, Kharmang, Skardu, and Rondu are famous for their luscious pears, apricots, peaches and apples.
The best season for tourist is from April to October.
Culture of Skardu
The people of Balti are a mixture of Caucasian and Tibetan stock. They speak “balti” and are having a similarity of its architecture, culture and lifestyle with Tibet.
Points to Visit/Main Attractions
The main attractions of Skardu include Kharpocho Fort, Buddha Rock Carvings, Shigar Valley, Khaplu Valley, Sadpara Lake, and Kachura Lake. Shigar valley contains the orchards of nuts, apricots, apples, mulberries, pears, peaches and plums. In the middle of Sadpara lake is a fairytale like island that enhances the beauty of this place.
Sports to Enjoy/Activities for tourists
Sadpara Lake is full of fishes and is awesome place for fishing activity. For climbing and trekking expeditions, Khaplu valley is the starting point. Kachura lake is abounds in brown trout.
Access to Skardu:
PIA is operating a daily flight between Skardu and Islamabad. This air journey is full of excitement and thrills. Skardu is 793 km away from Islamabad through Skardu road and Karakoram Highway.
What to Shop:
“Chugas (Baltistani gown)” and “Pattu(hand woven woollen cloth for coats, jackets etc)” are famous things to shop from Skardu bazaar. Wooden spoons are another eye-catching product of that place.
